Support

Living with disabilities is extremely expensive, especially in these difficult times of constantly-rising costs. Many of us know what it’s like to go without, struggling under the crushing costs of healthcare related expenses, medical treatments, physical therapies, medcine and other supplies.

Disabled people make less money, are hired less and experience discrimination in workplaces and through recruitment processes. We also have high costs associated with managing and maintaining our health and accessible, safe housing during this cost of living crisis and housing crisis. Little treats are luxuries often when we must prioritize basic needs over simple enjoyments and purchases of pick-me-ups.

When I am able, I donate to animal welfare, environmental and social justice charities whenever possible, as well as support local artists, makers and small businesses. Helping one another when and how we can is a caring investment in community.

Make a charitable donation in my name

Charities and causes I support would be grateful for your contribution in my name (just cite Jennifer Barnable/Finding Avalon Podcast):

I’m Jennifer

Friends call me Jenna, too. I’m an award-winning storyteller, professional communicator and disability inclusion advocate committed to increasing authentic disabled representation in media and community leadership.

With Disabled lived experience through an intersectional lens, I’m committed to anti-ableism education, disability justice, inclusive changemaking and Disabled empowerment.

I write, photograph, blog, create audio and video content, and produce an indie, Disabled-led, feminist podcast: “Finding Avalon: Amplifying Disabled Voices.”

Bringing 25 years of professional expertise and reputation, I work with businesses, academia, all levels of government and community organizations.

Hire me as a speaker, faclilitator, panellist, host, advisor or consultant to support your inclusion initatives, anti-ableism education, events and services.

Asking Disabled people to work for less pay or worse, unpaid, is exploitative and ableist. By ethical and professional standards, Disabled experts must be compensated fairly and equitably for our knowledge, skills and time.

Media requests seeking balanced and diverse Disabled perspectives are welcome.
